On March 8, 2018, after a nearly yearlong Section 232 Investigation by the Department of Commerce, the Trump Administration announced broad sweeping tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum imports. Though GT Grandstands and PlayCore’s products are predominantly produced with raw materials sourced domestically, the Section 232 Investigation and possibility of tariffs contributed to double digit cost increases for steel and aluminum in the US. The price per pound of aluminum, as a for instance, increased 10.8% since the beginning of 2018. Nearly 70% of the cost of our standard product lines are extruded aluminum. With the tariff announcement now behind us, it is necessary to add a 5% surcharge to our published pricing, going into effect on all future quotes and orders on May 14, 2018. We understand that this announcement falls outside of our normal pricing cycle but ask for your understanding in these unusual times of volatile commodity pricing.
